A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) was set up in the 1985. The institute objective is to provide training facilities to dental professionals and to help meet the coutry's growing health-care requirements.

The college is associated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS)and is recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
